Language access goes beyond translation

Offering another language is a starting point. The whole journey needs to remain understandable, from the first question to the next action.

Begin with short, direct source content. Explain service terms, avoid idioms and make dates, contact details and eligibility steps explicit. Ask community reviewers to check meaning and tone in context rather than relying only on a literal translation.

Keep language choice easy to find

Let visitors choose their preferred language early and change it during the interaction. Check right-to-left layouts, text wrapping and how a language sounds when spoken. Offer text alongside voice so people can choose what suits their setting.

Test the next step

A clear answer is only part of the experience. Check whether the linked form, phone service or appointment process also supports the visitor's language. When it does not, explain the available assistance and how to request it.
